High Performance Gully Emptier for J W Crowther & Son

Having been on display at this year's Drain Trader Exhibition, J W Crowthers have put their new Vallely Gully Emptier straight into service. As one of the North's largest highway maintenance contractors, the company's continued expansion has led to further investment in new equipment for one of their key contracts. The 1,800 TK1889.JPG (151656 bytes)gallon unit, mounted on a DAF LF55.250 4x2 chassis, will be used for cleaning the drains and gullies across the counties of Northern Britain.

The Gully Emptier is fitted with the super quiet water cooled Jurop PR200 vacuum pump, capable of 750CFM. Other features include the hydraulically operated debris pusher plate. This unique system will compress the debris to separate the solids from the water, allowing the dirty water to be used for dislodging solid materials in the gully pot as well as for re-sealing purposes. The other big advantage with this system is that the operator reduces the number of visits required off loading at tip sites. Together with the latest Pratissoli KF36 jetting pump, giving 122 l/min @ 160 Bar, all driven from a driveline PTO, this high performance Gully Emptier joins the Crowther’s fleet of Gully Emptiers, Road Sweepers, Tippers and plant equipment which operate from their Leeds base in West Yorkshire.

Off Road Recycler for JK Environmental Services UK

Vallely Tanker Engineering have just completed what they believe is Europe’s first Off Road Water Recycling Combination Unit. Towed and powered by the latest JCB FASTRAC 7230 with the 220bhp engine. The unit will be going to JK Environmental of Royston, Hertfordshire.

Visitors to the DT Exhibition would have seen the extent to which JK have gone with the specification to meet the demands of their multi £M contract with Severn Trent Water and 20 years after building the UK’s first recycler, Vallely have shown just how far recycling has been developed...

TK1883b.JPG (163195 bytes)

Designed and built by Vallely in close co-operation with JK to gain access to the network sewer and drainage system that is located “off road” sometimes in middle of farmland and in all kinds of weather and conditions. The water recycling system incorporates a primary separation and twin filtration “patented” system which cleans the dirty water to less than 200microns, incorporating the Pratissoli specially adapted MK range producing 270litres per minute @ 2100psi.

The system is continuous, with the dirty water collected from the drain but not required for jetting can be returned clean to the drain. The liquid ring vacuum pump produces around 1,000cfm and powered from the Fastrac PTO via a drawbar mounted transfer box. Both pumps can be switched separately or used simultaneously. To make cleaning down the filtration system easy for the operator, a fully automatic internal washdown facility is standard with residue silt being returned to the main debris tank via the vacuum system.

The Vallely pusher plate system, perfected for the Gully Emptiers, has been incorporated to primarily separate and eject the debris. An on-board CCTV system allows the operators to be self sufficient in terms of being able to clean, camera and compile data in one visit. This is vitally important as access to most locations where the unit will be deployed would be inaccessible to most CCTV units.

TK1883a.JPG (184306 bytes)

Finally to facilitate night time working a 2000watt lighting system complete with elevating tower and on board 6kva generator will provide enough illumination to cover the whole extended work area. Vallely are currently producing truck mounted recyclers incorporating the new system and with an increasing order book the future looks good for the next generation of recyclers.

Recycling In A Recession Makes Sense

When Angus Heron Ltd were considering replacing their 1998 Foden/Vallely Combination Unit with the latest Vallely 2009 version, a visit to the Vallely sales office and manufacturing facility at Leeds led to the customary tour of the workshops and in particular, the refurbishment department.

In “Work in Progress” was a 1997 and a 1999 both being re-chassised with the tanker equipment being completely refurbished. This got the visitors thinking why not explore the same treatment for their ageing Foden and equipment, that in part was destined for the scrapyard. The equipment was in relatively good order, although the Foden was well past its best. Having already purchased a new Hino 700 series to use for the replacement would it be a relatively straightforward decision to go for all-up new OR new truck and refurbished equipment. When the numbers were discussed and the concept analyzed further, it was almost a foregone conclusion, especially as the current economic climate still weighs heavily on any capital expenditure decisions... Central to the outcome was the finished look and the extent of the refurbishment being worked on, nothing was left to chance - if it shows signs of wear or fatigue it got replaced also “the quality of the paint finish was amazing” commented Ivan Smyth of Angus Heron Ltd “you would be hard pressed to distinguish these vehicles from brand new examples”.

Basically, the equipment is completely stripped down to the bare tank, the vacuum and jetting pumps are removed along with the driveline PTO, stripped down for full examination and rebuilt. All electric's, pneumatics and hydraulics are replaced and the control panels are brought right up to date to mirror the current specification on new builds. A full repaint and livery by the in-house paintshops completes the makeover.

“Now it’s complete, we are truly impressed with the end result” continues Ivan, “we have always used Vallely equipment, we like its simplicity, reliability and its performance is always right up there on top of the job and the operators prefer them. We knew our own vehicles were reliable so familiarity to the operators was an added bonus. The decision to go for new or recycle the old with a new chassis was an easy decision - in the end perhaps the icing on the cake was the eventual saving we made overall”.

The finished unit was displayed at the DT Exhibition in Cheltenham. Visitors to our stand were so impressed with the finish, it was often confused for new.

Equipment includes:

  • 4,000 gallon tank capacity,
  • Kaiser liquid ring vacuum pump,
  • Pneumatically operated moving division,
  • High performance Pratissoli jetting pump,
  • Full hydraulically operated hosereels.
  • Full hydraulically operated suction boom.

Boyne Takes Delivery of Tenth Vallely Unit

Boyne Waste have taken delivery of a very unique Combination Unit from Vallely Tanker Engineering Ltd. The unit features an on board “solid separation system”, which can reduce discharge volumes by up to 70%.

Commenting on their latest acquisition, Terry Kearns from Boyne Waste says “our customers are asking for savings and reducing the amount of waste taken off sites to the disposal point provides a significant cost reduction”. This unit is the tenth to join the Boyne fleet and also features a high performance liquid ring vacuum pump (3,100m³/hr), built by Vallely on a Volvo FM9 340 6x4 chassis/cab.

The ‘SSS’ or Solid Separation System uses the latest technology to compress the liquid and solids allowing the liquid to be discharged, retaining only the solids on board. The operation is continuous and very simple for the operator to manage. No additives or polymers are required or used and the whole system is self cleaning.

The unit also has a 345 l/min @ 170 Bar jetting facility to carry out drain cleaning duties as well as heavy industrial tank cleaning with the unique Vallely saddle tanks, now a regular feature on most Vallely Combi’s, affords an extra 4,000 litres of fresh water to be carried due to their robust design. They are manufactured from polyethylene and moulded to ensure strength with minimum weight. The additional water storage is achieved with virtually no weight penalty or any axle overload.

Terry Kearns further commented on the versatility of his new unit that despite the general downturn in work, “this vehicle has proved a sound investment with the ‘SSS’ system and the powerful suction and jetting capacity, yet keeping the truck size to just 3 axles achieves more than we would have expected”. “We have ordered another for delivery later in the year” he added.

Equipment includes:

  • 3,000 gallon tank capacity,
  • Kaiser liquid ring vacuum pump,
  • Pratissoli MK series jetting pump (345l/min @ 170 Bar),Boyne.gif (8783 bytes)
  • Polyethylene saddle tanks,
